It's Friday, September 21st and this is Polynauts Central hyping you up for the weekend here at Polygon on The Verge.
The weekend approaches and everyones' started letting their hair down here at PC. Let's have a party.

1: Requiem for the future: a day with 'Halo 4' by Arthur Gies
343i's additions bring their own challenges, however. The Promethean Knight's teleportation trick has the potential to frustrate. While I played through Halo 4's opening chapter on Heroic - and died, often - time constraints made normal my only option for my time with the Prometheans in "Forerunner." Given that, it's hard for me to gauge just how aggressively the Knights will capitalize on their mobility to make the Chief's life miserable when players go through Halo 4 on Heroic or Legendary difficulties, which have always been labeled "the way to play Halo."
As it was, Watchers were also a pain in the ass as they tucked their wings back and sped away, weaving in and out of structures, and Crawlers required quick reflexes to avoid getting swarmed. Even on Normal, I died more than once. 343i has a juggling act on their hands to make sure things are challenging, not infuriating.
2: 'Halo 4's' Dominion mode delivers a sense of urgency to multiplayer by Arthur Gies
More interestingly, a sort of slaughter-rule is in effect in Dominion. If one team dominates the other and secures all three capture points, a sudden death timer begins, forcing the losing team to capture a point before all of their members are killed, ending the match. This sense of urgency and fast back and forth is a different sort of multiplayer sensibility compared to Halo's traditional team modes, which tend toward the deliberate and a slower pace.
Shintec is showing off its SmaCon at Tokyo Game Show this week. The unusual name might make more sense once you twig that it's a contraction of "Smartphone Controller" — the device is a Bluetooth gamepad for Android phones. Once attached, it makes your phone look like a PSP Go, or (if you're feeling pessimistic) an Xperia Play.
Unlike those devices, though, the controls are permanently fixed below the screen, so you'll need to detach the SmaCon entirely and pop it in a bag if you want your phone to remain in a pocketable state.
4: 'Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen' expansion announced for 2013 by Emily Gera
Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen, an upcoming "major expansion" for Dragon's Dogma, was announced today by Capcom during Tokyo Game Show.
Information about the title will be made available soon. For now, however, fans can expect to see Speed Run and Hard modes added to the original Dragon's Dogma in a free update to be made available before the year's end.
5: 'Slender: The Arrival' is the next chapter in experimental horror by Emily Gera
Slender: The Arrival is announced today as the upcoming sequel to experimental horror game Slender, based on ideas first developed on the forums of SomethingAwful.
Designed by Mark Hadley, The Arrival is promised to be "more terrifying" than the original title, with a commercial release that will feature more levels, improved visuals, and an engaging storyline.

2: Any artists here? Need help with BF3 platoon logo design! by BigDaddy0790
Hello there fellow Polynauts!
Here is the deal, to make it rather short. I've been in this *censored* BF3 platoon for some time now, but lately realised that it's simply not what I want. It doesn't have proper chain of command, administration is often lazy, and nothing is happening although we got multiple servers and tons of members. There are no tournaments, no training, nothing. Just a community of friends.
One administrator in it didn't like it either. Turns out he's been working on an idea of a new platoon, one with proper chain of command, set of rules, everything like clockwork. I liked the idea and want to help him do that. Right now, what we need is a logo/banners design for the platoon page on battlelog and platoon's website. It's called "Orijin", the theme should be something military, the platoon uses it as an idea - be closer to military design.
I know that there are some people here who know how to draw/create pictures, so if any of you got time/will, I'd really appreciate any help at all. We really need a logo right now. Thank you for your attention, and I hope somebody will have time to help out! :)
3: Need game recommendations! by redrubberpenguin
I can't seem to find any game that really holds my interest. I'm not really sure if I've become bored with games in general or if I just can't find something that hasn't been done before. Either way, I need your help! I'm looking for something DIFFERENT - something that hasn't been done before (or since if it's an older game). I play pretty much all games except for Sports games, so I'm not particularly picky in terms of genre. However, I'd like the game to have an engrossing single player experience - I play League of Legends and Battlefield 3 if I really need a multiplayer fix.
4: A History of RPG's by Nerdsbeware
Hey there everyone. I need some help from the community - I'm in the process of working on a project chronicling the history of RPG games. The highs, the lows and everything in between. I am a huge fan of RPG games and I figure there are other people who love them as well who might want to help!
Anyway, what would you call the corner stone, ground breaking games that defined (or redefined) RPG's as a genre? What would you consider to be the failures? What would you considered the best and/or the worst?
