Thoughts from a General iPhone User. - Continuing from where I left..
Hello Friends,
I am back! I had posted a topic to discuss sometime back in August and the link to that is as below:
I am happy to see the responses of my fellow iPhone users here.
This message was posted long time back even before iOS6 and iPhone 5 was released and guess what, all my predictions are absolutely right.
Continuing from where I left,
We have iPhone 5, which has basically nothing more than a extra row of grid compared to my current iPhone 4. Yes, I heard from friends that it now has somewhat a faster processor and is thinner. But I want to know do you really care for these things? More Importantly, does Apple thinks users care about these things?
I don't think, that row of Grid really matters. As I use folders to organise my screen and I have stuffed all my 72 Apps in 2 screens very cleanly, with folder names. So why does Apple think, anyone would need that fifth row?
Frankly speaking, I think people are buying iPhone 5 due to reasons as below:
1. It is new Apple product. That's it!
Anything that Apple sells is automatically termed equivalent to Cool. Even though it may not be such a great thing & there may be better competitors to it. As a simple example, Macbook was termed as cool, even though it did not have ability to warn the users about closing the document which had unsaved changes with it!
I think, Apple have very intelligently named it as iPhone 5, and not iPhone 4SS or something like that, as it was sure to piss off the users.
Many of my friends have pre ordered iPhone 5, because there old phone has now become a 2 - 2.5 years old phone. When I asked some of them what do they know about iPhone 5, they simply said, they don't know. All that they know is a new iPhone is released and it is called iPhone 5. The latest and greatest from Apple, so it must be better. Plus my phone is already old with some scratches so let me change it!
I think Apple was also very smart in making sure, iPhone has a back which can break very easily. Because, once a phone breaks people would lose interest in it after some time automatically. Kudos to Apple for such a forward thinking approach!
2. App's, App's and App's:
Oh my God! This is one thing that can make sure Apple can sit back, relax, enjoy, see all their pockets getting filled automatically with out doing absolutely nothing.
I always wonder what would have happened to Apple, if there was no Steve Jobs? The only reason why Apple is having all these luxuries today is only due to Steve Jobs forward thinking approach to build an App ecosystem around iPhone which no one else can take away no matter what.
But I would still like to ask, How many will buy iPhone, if it was just an iPhone with no Apps? I see Microsoft & Google also release phone Software's. I am not a big tech geek, but on the face of it they are looking better to a very common man like me.
Google's Operating System, Ancroid seems to have nice wig-gets which look better than iPhone's Icons. Microsoft's Windows 8 OS has nice colourful square block's which update with live information. Like, News Headline, Sports Score, Share values, My pictures.
The operating system's are looking very very good indeed compare to iPhone. But the only gripe they carry with them is that they do not have all those thousands and thousands of app's that iPhone has.
But I still see lot of people buying Samsung phone's which are running Ancroid, even though it doesn't have any App's. I think people are buying that only because it seems to have lot of features which Google has built directly into OS. That is a good sign that things are changing.
I don't know about Windows 8 phone by MS, but I think that is very new and obviously will have no App's since it is new. But I think Microsoft is also equally capable of what Google is capable of and I am sure they would have built lot of good features into their OS.
But, Does this App goodness means Apple can Relax? Consider this: Say, a new company XYZ creates a new Phone which looks like iPhone and has same iOS interface but no App's, then no body would even give a damn about it! App's looks to me like only advantage Apple has.
I am not a Huge technical person & I don't know how much of thing I said above is true, so request people here to correct my ignorance if there is any. But I have few questions for you to answer me, so that I am better equipped to answer people:
1. Now that Apple has become very old and slow elephant, why doesn't it asks some body else to build an innovative interface & Features for iPhone which are similar to Ancroid and Windows 8 Phones.
2. Why can't Ancroid and Windows 8 phones make sure all the App's developed for iPhone work in their Phones also. This way, users have best of both worlds.
Users have an innovative interface and features built right into the phone without any App's + all the millions of App's developed for iPhone. This will not take even a minute to think for everyone to switch to Ancroid and Windows 8.
