Lightning port: is the iPad3 now obsolete?

Whether you have an iPhone 5 or one of the new iPods, Lightning is Apple's mobile device connector future. So why would anyone buy an iPad 3 with the old connector? It's now a dinosaur. OK, now I'm sure lots of people are still buying the iPad 3, likely by many who have no idea that Apple is even moving to a new connector. Others might not care. But some of us do care, particularly when extra cables aren't exactly cheap.

In the integrated world that is Apple, shouldn't we be expecting an updated iPad3 really soon? Like, really soon?
