Microsoft is in a messaging mess
There are way too many messaging options in Microsoft’s ecosystem.
· MSN/Windows Live Messenger
· GroupMe
· Skype
· Qik
· Lync
· Facebook Chat (integrated into messaging app)
· Rooms (leaked group chat app for WP8)
Although I understand millions of people still use it, particularly internationally, it’s time to kill Windows Live Messenger. Microsoft needs to just integrate the features of GroupMe, Qik and Rooms into Skype and use that as their default messaging platform. Over 200 million people use it daily and it’s available on every major OS and ecosystem.
If Skype stays onboard as the mainstream, consumer messaging platform for Microsoft products with Facebook Chat being a (crappy) alternative and Lync as the enterprise option, they’ll pretty much have all the bases covered.
