Windows 8 Professional issues on EliteBook 8540w

After going through several false starts, as well as a moment in which Windows 8 accidentally couldn't install *or* restore Windows 7, I finally have Windows 8 Professional up and running.

However, I'm running into a few problems, hopefully some of which you kind folks at the Microsoft Tribe can help out with.

Windows 8 seems to be unable to recognize and fully utilize my Quadro FX (notebook) 880M graphics card, and when I try to install the 64 bit Windows 8 drivers from nvidia, Windows crashes several times and restores to a previous point. (Kudos to MS for that self-healing ability)

Secondly, I'm having trouble with a USB 3.0 external hard drive, which fails to properly recognize in Windows 8 until I plug it into a 2.0 slot. What makes this really troubling is that an identical 3.0 drive plugs into the 3.0 slot and recognizes just fine.

Finally, and here's a major issue, the webcam doesn't seem to display the video stream at all. When I Skype, the person on the other end can see me, but I can't see my own video stream. Could this have something to do with the video drivers as well?

I suppose I could sum up my questions: Is it acceptable/feasible to install Windows 7 64 bit drivers for graphics and other utilities?
