I am tired of waiting...
Almost a year ago, I sold my iPhone 4 so I could jump into Windows Phone. I met a guy at a 7 eleven in a part of St. Louis that smells like sewage. I bought a Samsung Focus from him for $120. The lock screen was set to the gentleman I bought it from holding machetes. I formatted the phone, and fell in love with the OS.
Fast forward 6 months...
While I still love the phone, I am getting frustrated by the lack of apps, and the lack of updates. My phone has only received the Mango update, and thats the only update I will ever see. While I still love the phone, it has major drawbacks. The OS itself is buttery smooth, but apps tend to lag. Be it developers fault, or Microsoft's, it doesn't really matter. It leaves a bad taste in a consumers mouth. Not only do they lag, their is a serious lack of them. No one seems to understand how to create a Metro app either (except for Microsoft that is) and no one cares about the Windows ecosystem.
Fast forward to now...
I follow everything Microsoft does. I have been waiting for an upgrade since last November. I wanted a phone that was worthy of my ownership. I watched the iPhone 4s, the Galaxy Nexus, the One X, and the GSIII get released and I still stood by windows phone. I wanted it to succeed. I hid behind the beautiful OS, and I forgave Microsoft for making me wait. But, I am tired of waiting for a good Windows Phone. Here we are in Q3 of 2012. It has almost been 6 years since the release of the iPhone. 6 years and we haven't even gotten a decent flagship phone from Microsoft. I understand they want to finish the OS. But come one. From what we have seen, not much has changed. Apollo is looking like another Tango. One thing you can give android, is the fact that the keep innovating year after year. New useful features that don't only fix the OS, but add to the enjoyment and useful you get out of device. I will get a lot of flack for this post...but I am tired of waiting. Apple is going to show everyone something beautiful, intuitive, and new...and it will be available for preorder that same day. Nokia show us something beautiful, a little betrayful, and definitely new....and it will be available...? Stop toying with your fans Nokia. So Microsoft doesn't have the OS ready...THEN WAIT. I don't want to be shown something that I can't buy for a few months. I don't even know what improvements WP8 will have over WP7 besides better specs and smaller tiles. C'mon guys. OK...rant over.
