Easy Way to do Google Cloud Backup?

The new Carbon backup from the maker of CWM says that the final version can back up app data without rooting but it needs to be tethered to the computer. It uses the no-root adb backup command automatically.

So wouldn't it also theoretically be possible for Google to take this and emulate a wireless tether (kind of like Air Droid) and just do a cloud backup?

What do you think? Can we expect to see this in Android 5.0?
