Start is back!

Peter Bright over at reviewed a bunch of different Start Menu replacements for Windows 8 and one that really stood out was StartIsBack

  • A Start Menu that is identical to Windows 7
  • Auto-boot to desktop
  • Disable hot corners
  • Incredibly low resource usage (runs zero extra processes)

StartIsBack is in active development (latest update 2013-01-12) and costs $3 for a 2 PC license.

My personal opinion is that whilst the Start Screen in Windows 8 takes some getting use to, the end result is an app launcher that's better than the Windows 7 Start Menu. However if you don’t agree, and you miss the old Start Menu, StartIsBack is definitely a tool you should look at.
