"Apple is doomed"

Back in 2007 when Steve Jobs was about to unveil the first iPhone, he said:

"Every once in a while a revolutionary product comes along that changes everything."

"One's very fortunate if you get to work on just one of these in your career. Apple's been very fortunate to introduce a few of these into the world"

He was talking about: the Macintosh (1984), the iPod (2001) and of course the about to be presented iPhone (2007).

Now this I already find very impressive for one company, but three years later in 2010 they also presented the iPad.

We are one month into 2013 and people are worrying, some are even complaining about Apple. I've seen posts saying stuff like: "We all know Apple is failing", "I'm so bored with Apple" and "Apple have lost their innovative edge".

In the years that Apple didn't release a revolutionary product, what do you think they have been doing? They were busy improving and perfecting the products. Always making sure it's the best on the market.

How is Apple failing? Have you seen the numbers they published?

Is it hardware?

Are they making crap compared to everyone else now? Have you seen the Retina MacBook Pro and the iPhone 5 released last year. The 15" Retina MacBook has a 2880x1800 screen. You can fit a maxed out 27" iMac screen in there and still have room left. It's such a powerful machine and they managed to fit all that in something that's only 0,71" thick and weighs 2 kg.

Almost the same thing with the iPhone 5. They made every iPhone 4S component better and smaller, while increasing battery life. It has beaten all the other phones in every area according to the benchmarks. And again, they managed to fit all that in something that is slightly taller, thinner and lighter than the iPhone 4S and all everyone says is "Ah, it's just an extra row of icons". Those bigger phones made by other phone manufacturers should smoke the iPhone, but they don't, so is it safe to assume they don't know how to make a phone this powerful, compact and efficient?

Oh and about wireless charging.

Is it software?

First of all, Apple wants iOS to be simple, easy to use & learn and elegant. There are little 3 year old kids and old aged people that know how to use an iPad. This is an OS everyone should be able to use without going through manuals, self studies and walkthroughs while maintaining its elegance. There are no Android style widgets. There is no quick access to some settings. iOS tries to manage as much as possible for you.

So who is innovating on software? Android (which is running on Samsung Galaxy devices. iOS' biggest competitor) has changed a lot since its first days, but that was because it started out really bad. It needed all the improvements / "innovation". iOS got most of it right from the start, there wasn't much to improve. Well, not as much as on Android.

Now, I'm not saying I think Android is bad. I just think iOS' learning curve is much lower than Android's and therefore it's for a different kind of user. iOS tries to add as much functionality without getting too complex. I don't see Apple adding big features unless it's really useful for almost all the users and if it can be implemented in a simple and non-cluttering way. You can expect the essential, logical improvements which make the device easier to use.

Do you think the biggest competitor Samsung is doing a great job with TouchWiz? Does something like Pop Up Play, which allows you to watch a video while you're doing something else, like browsing the web or composing an email, make you want to switch to Samsung? It's like they don't really care if it's useful, they just want to show it off.

Time and expectations

Give Apple some time. They have already brought you the Macintosh, iPod, iPhone and iPad. Apple is not the innovator for the world. You sound like a spoiled brat if you're already demanding for the next big game changer from them. They know what they're doing and always try to make the best products, but if you think there is something else that's better, just buy that. No one is forcing you to purchase Apple products.

At least stop complaining and try to contribute, like they do here.

Oh and if you're bored with your iOS device. You might want to check out the App Store.

(Looks like I overdid it with the bold font lol)
