Last month, Google announced that Android phones and tablets could push YouTube video straight to Google TV devices, letting the smartphone act as a remote — and now, the company is announcing a major expansion of that functionality. TVs from manufacturers like Bang & Olufsen, LG, Panasonic and Sony will be capable of receiving YouTube streams from an Android device without needing special hardware like a Google TV box; this will also roll out to hardware from Philips, Samsung, Sharp, Toshiba, Vizio, Western Digital and others throughout 2013. Google and its partners will have more details on this new functionality at CES, but it sounds like only new TV sets will work with this feature. At the very least, it's one less app on your Smart TV, and it'll likely be a far more convenient way to quickly put video up on your big screen.
