Packard Bell dot s C

While it's a sweet little netbook (I bought for my young daughter), the two main cons are:
1 - The screen resolution is 1024x600, which is not quite deep enough for many web sites. It should have been 720p.
2 - The O/S is Windows 7 SE, and it struggles to run apps with only 1GB of memory. The documentation that comes with the problem is pretty minimal, so I contacted Packard Bell about upgrading the memory to 2GB (there's only one memory slot, so you have to replace the existing 1GB card with a 2GB card), and they replied with:
"We neither recommend nor support upgrading or downgrading hardware on the product as it might lead to compatibility issues. If you wish to upgrade or downgrade hardware on the product, we request you to contact a local technician."
I really don't want to pay for someone else to do this, so I asked them for details on how to open the machine to replace the memory (yes, it would void the warranty), but they wouldn't provide them.
Hmm...
