Take a look at this apple comparison page -

Questions:
1) Why do you think they chose stocks as the new app to display on the homescreen?
2) Why do you think they didn't fill the bottom row?
My answers:
1) Stocks sounds professional, so why not?
2) No clue. I'm a bit weird about empty spaces on homescreens, but I also like symmetry. Therefore, I either have all my rows filled or I leave a row completely empty. If the bottom row would squeeze to the center the way the dock does I would be very happy.
