Apple, where are your new apps?

iOS 7 has been out for a short while and so far there's been no sight or sign of Apple releasing any new apps. It does bother me that developers were able to redesign their own apps in time for the release of iOS 7 but Apple wasn't able to.

I'm extremely surprised that this doesn't bother anyone. Functionality is clearly missing from some apps where it would make a significant difference. Podcasts, iBooks, and Pages could all benefit from background updating but unfortunately lack this functionality. Yeah, the ticker updates occasionally, but your newest podcasts are never downloaded when you enter the app.

The same goes for Pages, it would be great if it could occasionally download the latest versions of your documents. It's a frequent problem from me when I go to access something and find that it's not actually there yet. For example, on my iPad I would love to work on documents on my commute, but I can't do that when the documents are sadly unavailable.

I just can't imagine why this situation might be. Do you think this is why Apple gave away the apps for free? As an apology for a lack of updated versions? Don't get me wrong, I love Apple's services and am really enjoying iOS 7, but I can't help but notice it's just not "like Apple" to leave such a gaping hole like this.
