BlackBerry selling unlocked phones directly to consumers

BlackBerry is now selling their Z10 phone (and other models) unlocked, directly to US customers. I think this is a good move for BlackBerry. The price for the Z10 is $399, which is very competitive for a premium unlocked phone. I hope it generates some business for BlackBerry, but it should also generate some positive buzz. The consumer would benefit greatly if Microsoft/Nokia, Apple, Samsung and others broke the strangehold the carriers have over handset sales and offered unlocked phones for use on any network. Prices would drop.Service would improve. A big win for the US consumer who has been raped for years by the carriers.
