Mavericks on my university network?

This is what my university is saying about Mavericks support:

Support for Mac OS X Mavericks (OS X 10.9)

Essentially they're saying "Mavericks is not supported", but the impression I get is that this means they just won't be dealing with support requests in the event that I have problems.

If I'm already connected to the college network, is there any way (obviously there's a chance, but in reality) that I could be disconnected and not be able to reconnect?
