Has anyone else noticed MORE hard drive space since Mavericks?
This took me by surprise as it was the last thing I bothered to look at after updating.
Before I made the switch to Mavericks, I checked to see how much space I had left on my hard drive because I knew I didn't have much left before getting the 5GB Mavericks installer. I distinctly remember having 20 GB of space left. It was probably around 15 or so after I downloaded the installer. This is pretty much where my space has hovered at for the last several months so this was normal to me.
After making a Time Machine backup on an external drive, I then proceeded to install Mavericks. I did not delete anything on the MBA before installing it.
Once installation was complete, I took note of what apps were working and which of them weren't compatible. I also poked around to see the improvements. After going on with my day for a bit, I then had the idea of checking to see if I lost any hard drive space after the install. Much to my surprise, I now have 41.62 GB of space available.
Does anyone know if installation deletes some kind of system folder that's packed with temp files or something? Perhaps a recovery partition? Something? I can't for the life of me find an explanation for how I managed to recover 20+ GB of space.
Does the OS just have a MUCH smaller footprint now? Did it dump old, redundant ML system files? I'm certainly not complaining, but I'm just so confused.
