So as you probably all know, Google is taking their sweet time to release the Nexus 5 and KitKat. So, being the android enthusiast that I am, I wanted KitKat now. Here's what I came up with...
Now all of you probably want to do this and it's actually pretty easy. Just goes to show the power of android. I'll walk you guys through the steps, incase some of you don't know.
You're going to need to download a 3rd party launcher, such as nova or apex launcher. I'm using nova, so some of my steps might not work on apex.
(nova launcher link) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.launcher
So now that you have Nova Launcher installed.. you're going to need the kitkat theme. This post on droid life is what made me do this. They have links to the kitkat themes. http://www.droid-life.com/2013/10/13/get-the-android-4-4-kit-kat-look-with-these-icons-and-wallpaper/
Step 3: To install the new kitkat icons, you're going to need a file manager. Anyone should work, but here's one I recommend:https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.estrongs.android.pop
Once that is installed, you're going to want to change the icons to the kitkat themed ones. The post on droid life only includes icons for the drawer icon, dialer, and google now/settings. To use these icons, long press on the icon you want to change and select edit. Then tap on the icon picture and tap on your selected file manager. From there, navigate to wherever you have the kitkat theme downloaded, and select the icon you wish to change to. You might have to extract the downloaded zip file to see the icons in the file manager(not sure about this).
Almost done! Now you're going to want a new icon pack that fits with the kitkat theme, because the icon pack before only themed a few icons. So download an icon pack such as holo icons:https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.unseenvision.mnml
To apply this theme, head over to nova settings and select look and feel. Then hit icon theme and select the holo icon pack. Now we need to change the dock up. Head over to the dock page in nova settings and select to remove the dock separator. You'll also want to change the theme of nova launcher from blue to white. This is found in nova settings in the look and feel page again.
The clock that I'm using is called Clock Now in the play store:
The wallpaper that I'm using can be found on Romain Guy's Google plus page, because he's the guy that took the photos(don't worry he works for Google, so he's not some totally random guy).
All done! Now enjoy your faux KitKat experience until Google decides to give us the actual KitKat!
