The Question: Desktop And Metro

I keep hearing this argument that Metro is going to replace Desktop. I'm not really against it. I think Metro could possibly do it. But... here is the real question I have. How do you or anyone see programs like Lightwave, Maya, and other highly multi functional programs like this running in Metro? If it's supposed to be a mobile operating system in the first place, doesn't this defeat the purpose? And here is another question, what is wrong with the desktop in the first place? It seems like there is a bit of animosity against to begin with and I don't understand why? I think the Windows Desktop is very functional and presents Microsoft as a very professional company.
