Carrier Reps are Incompetent Sacks: Chapter 5,078
It's no secret by now that either bias or sheer stupidity by carrier reps has hindered WP adoption since day one and while things have improved they still have a long way to go. Obviously we've heard story after story about this but I think my current situation with Verizon has reached the point of such ridiculousness that I feel it is worth sharing with all of you for your amusement.
I go to a small college in rural Illinois about 3 hours from my home in Chicago. My closest Verizon store is a good 20 minute drive away in the next city over. Yesterday afternoon my 928 froze up and when I rebooted it got caught in a loop that eventually led to it getting stuck on the bootloader. After trying every possible option to recover I declared it nuked and went to take it into the store. I've given the stores by my house crap about their attitude before and for the most part they've cleaned up their act, however I now had to deal with a store in the middle of hickville that probably does a fraction of the volume of sales of any store back home. No more than 10 seconds after walking in the complete tool of a rep chooses to make a snide, verge-writer-worthy line about "well of course windows would break". He has already started digging the hole and it just gets deeper from there.
He tells me they "have no more Windows in stock" (remember this quote exactly) and goes on his iPad to order a refurb. I tell him that being at school, I don't have the option of waiting around until next week for them to ship. I needed to walk out of that store with a working phone, and he couldn't seem to care less. That's when I was fed up enough with his attitude to ask for the manager. She promptly chewed him out for it and was able to give me a floor model LG Spectrum (a giant piece of shit) as a loaner to use while waiting for my replacement "Windows" (exact words) to ship. I'll give her credit for trying to make up for the rep's utter douchedom, but it was obvious she still didn't have a clue as she kept referring to my phone as "a Windows".
So this morning I get a shipping confirmation and when I go to check the tracking number I discover they did not ship me a new 928, they shipped an 8X. Both the rep and the manager apparently thought that they were the same phone, and that it was just called "The Windows". So I had to call customer service and they working on fixing it but because it already shipped, it's likely I'll have to wait until the 8X arrives and then send it back before they will actually send me my 928, which means I am going to be stuck using this piece of junk LG for possibly another week because of sheer incompetence. The level of obliviousness is so astounding I can't even wrap my brain around it.
(here where I get really ranty so feel free to stop reading now) and on the topic of the LG they gave me, just having it sit next to me on my desk is making me angry. It's slow, ugly, and feels flimsy and cheap. I've never owned an Android before because I went from my old BlackBerry Tour to WP and never looked back, but based on the last day of having this thing I can definitively say I would sooner buy an iPhone than Android, and I'm one of the most shameless Apple haters around. The only thing this thing has going for it is the notification center which we all know is coming in the not too distant future. I wouldn't trade any of the polish and speed of WP for any of Android's so-called benefits like "openness" and "customizability" that people always rave about. People like to say WP has too many trade-offs, I'm saying the exact opposite. Even "real" instagram on this thing is crap compared to "fake" 6tag.
So yeah, that's that. I just kinda needed to get that frustration off my chest so I hope my current misery provided you at least some bit of entertainment because the whole situation is just absurd.
