iCloud Backup Questions

The Apple KB article on iCloud Backups tell me this (for your info, I've never used iCloud backups):

Here’s what iCloud backs up:

  • Purchased music, movies, TV shows, apps, and books

Your iCloud backup includes information about the content you have purchased, but not the purchased content itself. When you restore from an iCloud backup, your purchased content is automatically downloaded from the iTunes Store, App Store, or iBookstore based on iTunes in the Cloud availability by country. Previous purchases may be unavailable if they have been refunded or are no longer available in the store.

  • Photos and videos in your Camera Roll

  • Device settings

  • App data

  • Home screen and app organization

  • iMessage, text (SMS), and MMS messages

  • Ringtones

  • Visual Voicemail

I understand it can restore quite some important stuff, but for me apps are more important here, and what I'm concerned is about downloaded content: from what I've read above, If I purchased and downloaded a game (which for instance doesn't have cloud save functionality) if I were to restore this backup on another device, I could get the same game but not the progress right?

Assuming what I said was correct (and please correct me if I'm wrong), what's the real point of iCloud backups if you can only re-download the 3rd party apps but can't restore the content?
