'HTC vs Samsung' --> 'Android (Google) vs Apple'
Looking through the GooglePlex forum, I see a lot of quarreling going on between HTC and Samsung fanboys. According to the HTC side, Samsung is succeeding as a company making ‘inferior’ phones, while HTC is failing as a company making ‘superior’ phones (HTC One). The HTC fanboys think this is obviously unfair (the masses are dumb? /s) and complain...all while overlooking HTC shortcomings and criticizing Samsung over things that are irrelevant or simply matters of opinion.
Why is this occurring? Like one user pointed out on one of these threads, people like to root for the underdog and hold whoever’s on top to higher standards. HTC is clearly the underdog here and Samsung is the one on top.
I found this dynamic within the android camp highly interesting because it reminds me of what I often see between android and apple fanboys. Android fanboys root for Google/Android (the underdog), even with clear flaws, while criticizing apple (the one on top) for things that are often opinion-based or irrelevant. Things are a bit better now since the two platforms are on more even footing, but this was quite apparent prior to jellybean.
