What to get? PS4, Gaming rig, or Laptop
Ok all, I'm looking for some help with the future of my gaming life.
Background: I currently have a PS3 and an XPS 15z (holiday 2011) laptop that I use for my gaming. The laptop has 8 GB of ram, 2nd gen i7 dual core @2.8 GHz, 1920x1080, and NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M graphics card. Basically it can play BF3 on low settings with slightly reduced resolution smoothly.
Now that I am out of college and can afford to spend a little money, I'm looking to update my setup. I'm mostly looking to play games like BF4, FIFA, and probably a couple of other sports titles. I also like strategy games, but my current PC doesn't have too much trouble handling those usually.
My gut instinct is telling me the best solution is to just build a $1k gaming/HTPC and leave room for future upgrades. However, I have zero experience with building PCs, are there any good one stop services/forums for help with doing this as painlessly as possible? I know and have played with PC part picker, but the number of choices are a bit intimidating, and I am not especially knowledgeable about things like picking the right motherboard or CPU cooling system and making sure to leave room for upgrading.
The fastest, easiest, and cheapest solution would be to just get a PS4, plug it into my big ass TV and go to town. However this would basically leave me out in the cold for strategy games, and I am well aware of the drawbacks of playing FPS games on console vs PC. The PS4 would be marginally better for sports titles with releases for all sports, and not having to worry about shitty PC ports.
The final option would be to get a new laptop, something like a the new Dell XPS 15 with 4th gen i7, 16 GB of RAM, and NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 750M 2GB GDDR5. At $1900 this is obviously the most expensive option. It would however be much easier than building my own rig, and would kind of kill 2 birds with 1 stone and replace my current laptop as well as serve as my gaming rig and HTPC to a degree. This also stops me from having to balance content between my laptop and a separate HTPC. This option also has no room for upgrading.
Basically I'm looking for some kind of feedback or angles on this that I haven't thought of yet. Suggestions for the best ways to go about building a PC rig are welcome as well. Thanks all!
EDIT: I just thought of option 4! Should I wait and see about Steam Box? Maybe it will be the best of all the worlds?
