Windows Phone 8 Versions

With iOS, it's easy. iOS7, then 7.0.1, 7.0.2, etc.

With Android, it's also easy. 4.2, then 4.2.2, then 4.3, 4.4, etc.

With Windows Phone, it's Windows Phone 8, then 8.0.10211.204, 8.0.1032.77, 8.0.10492.116, 8.0.10501.127, or is it 8.0.10512.142...?

Seriously, something is wrong here. Why can't Microsoft just call them 8.0.1, 8.0.2, and so on? I mean what's the latest version of the OS do consumers expect with those silly numbering system?
