MacBook Air, Meet the "iPad Pro"
I've been putting a lot of thought into my next laptop purchase. I really love my late-2010 MacBook Air - it's an amazing machine - but I've really run the battery into the ground and it's time to upgrade to 8GB of RAM. Thanks for the recommendations, forum members!
However, I plan on keeping my laptop until a truly new evolution of the MacBook Air is introduced. I want to really feel like I'm getting an entirely new product, hopefully with all of the enhancements that Apple has made to the line over the past three years.
But as I think more and more about the last Apple event, the introduction of the iPad Air, I really believe we're in store for a big surprise from Apple. For quite a long time, I've hoped that Apple would introduce a machine that's part tablet, part laptop - very similar to the convertible devices that Lenovo has been producing of late.
It's not a revolutionary statement, many have argued the same, but the new iPad branding ("mini" & "Air") may give us a clue of what's to come - the "iPad Pro". Though as of today the iPad mini and iPad Air only differ in size, not specifications or design, I do believe that an iPad Pro could be announced with an entirely new form factor (not simply a 12- or 13-inch version). Call me crazy, but I believe an iPad Pro could take a similar form factor of the MacBook Air but with a removable screen that functions as a tablet. I admit, this is way out there and I'm very likely wrong, but I think something is coming...something "new". And I'm not talking about an iWatch or Apple TV, I think Apple is going to redefine the laptop, again.
