7th generation gaming memories
As the 8th generation of video game consoles is upon us. I like to look back see what everyone loved about their favorite games of the past generation. I got my Xbox 360 on new years day 2008. I loved cars and every since the fall of 2006 I had been looking screens and ogling over Forza Motorsport 2. It was my only game until September 2008. When I got Call of Duty 4. Which just made my jaw hit the floor. (even before I got an HDMI cable Christmas 2008). Back then all the tired tropes we associate with COD today blew me away and I really enjoyed it! I was amazed at the visuals. The All Ghilied Up level blew me away! It was so much fun. Similar I was also impressed with another game for that great year 2007. That was Assassins Creed which I got in the fall of 2009. While the side missions did get annoying I honestly enjoyed that game. (I played it a few days ago and throwing knife kills are just so fucking satisfying!)
In 2010 I finally got on the Bioshock band wagon! As well as Assassins Creed II. In 2011 I got a bunch of band wagons: Bioshock 2, The Orange Box, Halo3-Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Mass Effect 1 and 2, GTA 4, Alan Wake, and Red Dead Redemption. Yet the game that sticks out most for me is Mass Effect.
I still clearly and dearly remember when the story truly sucked me in. It was Noveria I was investigating Exogeni I was with Garrus and Kaiden in the main lobby. I just sat and thought wow this game is so deep! I loved the Noveria mission and no other mission in the other Mass Effects got to me like that one. The mystery and sense of adventure, figuring whats up with company what they were doing. That game just truly hit me deep like no other.
My journey with nostalgia began on Christmas Day 2011. I got Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary. I had first seen Halo at a friends house after American Football practice when I was 10 back in 2002. He had the Halo demo on his Xbox. I thought the game was the coolest thing ever. I spent the rest of the day running around making laser sounds and thinking that game was the cats pajamas. I played through the entire game in the summer of 2010 on my PC. Seemed fun I liked it and still people played it online. So when I heard about a remake of Halo 1 with updated graphics I was ecstatic. I watched preview videos from E3 on YouTube, and couldn't wait to get the game. In this time I had played Halo 3, Halo 3:ODST, and Halo: Reach so I was excited for another visit to Installation 04. So when Christmas came around I took a trip down Nostalgia lane the whole day!
It was so cool to get out of the escape pod and explore the openness and mysteriousness of the Halo ring once again. I still loved it and wish the new Halos would go back to that sense of mystery and adventure the first game brought. I enjoyed the updated graphics and the fact that they kept the same game engine and let me switch back to the graphics from 2001.
I will share more gaming moments in the comments! You can write about any game you want and any platform as long as the game came out in the 7th generation 2005/2006-now.
