Lack of touchless controls - my biggest disappointment about the Nexus 5/KitKat
Lack of touchless actions a la Moto X.
Touchless controls is one of the best things about the Moto X, imo. It's so nice to have your phone sitting next to you on the couch and asking for the time without even having to touch it (just a simple example). Or, while cooking, asking the phone how many ounces are 40 grams of something (or vice-versa) without having to clean and dry your hands to check it for yourself. I honestly believe that there are a lot of applications for this kind of thing.
"But what are you talking about, Antonis427? The Nexus 5 has touchless controls! You only have to say "OK Google" on the homescreen"
That's exactly it, though. I have to touch the phone to turn the screen on and unlock it, which misses the point. Touchless controls should allow me to initiate the action I want without having to touch the device itself.
I thought that the Snapdragon 800 was capable of having always-on listening ability without much battery drain and this is why it is so disappointing. The hardware is there, the software is there.
In all honesty, this is the one thing that'd make me upgrade from my Nexus 4 instantly. Without it, I don't find anything about the N5 THAT appealing (it is a great phone, I'm sure - just not sure if it's a great upgrade from the N4).
Oh well, maybe it'll be added at a later date. There's always hope.
