Lumia tablets - Windows RT. Surface tablets - Windows 8

There are rumors that Windows phone and Windows RT will be merging in future. It was reported by Tom warren earlier on Verge.

In a recent interview at UBS technology summit, Larson Green (EVP, devices and studios) of Microsoft said,

"We have the Windows Phone OS. We have Windows RT and we have full Windows. We’re not going to have three."

So taking that into consideration, in my opinion Microsoft should continue the Lumia tablet line up alongside Surface tablets with few changes.

Lumia lineup should be used for Windows RT tablets alongside Lumia phones.Surface line up should have full Windows 8 tablets.

  • Lumia - Windows RT
  • Surface - Windows 8

It gives Microsoft to compete across wide price ranges, providing quality hardware for consumers. Also, there will be less confusion because of no surface tablets with RT.

Microsoft can release 4 tablets (2 Lumia + 2 surface).

  • Lumia (8 inch - $299 for WiFi): Windows RT, Office apps in metro, multiple colors, optional stylus.
  • Lumia (10.1 inch - $399 for WiFi): Windows RT, Office apps in metro, multiple colors, optional stylus.
  • Surface (10.6 inch - $499 for WiFi): Windows 8, Next gen atom, optional stylus.
  • Surface (10.6 inch - $899 for WiFi): Windows 8 Pro, Next gen core i5, Stylus, Type cover included.
Keep the desktop mode in RT. Just hide the tile from start screen. Its the best and popular file explorer and one of the most requested features in Windows phone.
