Moving to the country...
First, a little bitching (feel free to skip to the next paragraph.) I assume I'll be switching to a capped plan of some sort and have been trying to figure out my current usage rate. I have AT&T U-verse for internet and on four phone calls and two chat sessions I have been disconnected twice, once told that I have an unlimited plan so AT&T doesn't even track my usage, once told that I have 250 gb per month so I don't need to worry about my usage, and once told that the website was under construction. Then on my longest, dumbest phone call, I was told that I should be able to access that information on my own and to just keep trying. Then I just installed a monitor on my computer to keep track for a week or two so I can extrapolate. Of course, I can't install Tomato or any other custom firmware on the U-verse modem either. Seriously...don't get U-verse internet if you can avoid it.
Anyways...do we have many rural folks on here? What do you all do for internet service? I'm moving a ways outside of town and so far Hughes Net is the only company I know that even offers service, and a 5 GB monthly cap doesn't sound too appealing at the moment.
How about cheap solar panels? We're not going to be in the house long enough to make it worthwhile to outfit the whole house, but I was thinking maybe just a solar panel or two on top of the shed so I could hook an outlet and some lights up. Any good, reliable, and affordable options there?
