Raymond Chandler's 'The Big Sleep,' Week II
Chapters 8 - 16 this time around.
One of my problems with The Big Sleep is that I keep having to shut out all the parodies and pastiches that it's inspired. Chandler's style is so ubiquitous now that it's hard to read it with fresh eyes. I'm not sure if this is just me, or if it's an inescapable cultural thing -- I lent Neuromancer to somebody else at The Verge and he said it just felt cliched, because it had invented so many tropes that would get done to death later.
