video making the rounds purporting to show a Yahoo competitor to Siri and Google Now was not developed by Yahoo, sources close to the company tell The Verge. The video, which was posted earlier today on Android Police, shows a Yahoo-branded personal assistant app running on an Android smartphone. But whoever made the video does not work at Yahoo.

It's still possible that Yahoo is working on some sort of personal assistant — this month the company acquired SkyPhrase, which specializes in natural language recognition. But no conclusions can be drawn from today's video. News that the video was not Yahoo's was first reported by TechCrunch.
