This is a fascinating, and ultimately convincing, argument. While shaving off 18 seconds of interaction with the smartphone OS may sound absurd, it really is true that micro interactions take our attention away from things a lot less. Two current phone concepts: Motorolla's active display, and the the notification LED in many other phones, are excellent examples of this.
