Refresh Cycles!
US populations for 2012 = 314 million and - US census
US population for 2012 excluding those under 5 years = 294 million - US census
US population for 2012 excluding those under 18 years = 266.9M - US census
Total number of phones sold = 166.9 milions - Strategy Analytics!
So basically 70% of the people in US above 18 years of age bought a new phone in 2012!
So we expecting the phone market will still expand in 2013, basically implying that the 2 year refresh cycle and 2 year contracts are no longer in best interest of the customers, as refresh cycles are coming down may be a year or little more!
TMO seems to be on the right path by getting rid of 2 year contracts and subsidies, now at least people with shorter refresh cycle will not be stopped because of the contracts.. actually better industry
