Sherlock actor Benedict Cumberbatch is on a long streak of playing famously intelligent individuals, and is now tipped to play Alan Turing in The Imitation Game, Deadline reports. According to the publication, Cumberbatch is deep in conversations for the lead role — which was previously expected to go to Leonardo DiCaprio — but has yet to sign a deal. The film, written by Graham Moore and directed by Morten Tyldum, will likely focus on the life of Alan Turing, the brilliant Englishman who helped crack the German Enigma in World War II. Cumberbatch's previous performances in Sherlock, Hawking, and Frankenstein, combined with his upcoming roles in The Hobbit, Star Trek Into Darkness, and the Julian Assange biopic seem to indicate that the British actor is on a quest to fill the shoes of every iconic nerd in history.
