Disappointed...
My Macbook kept making this whoosing noise (sounded like a mail program envelope being delivered) at random times, but couldn't figure out what it was. Googled it (how to see what program is making noise osx), and figured out it was iMessage with the sign in/out. Because Apple isn't using anything better than AIM from back in the day with the poorly indicated dropdown for the different scenarios for possible sounds. I passed right over it when I did my Preferences browse. Been bugging me for months!
