SSD + HDD Inquiry

Hi All,

By the end of this week I'll be the owner of a 256 gb Samsung 840 pro SSD. My intent is to have my (2011) Macbook Pro 320 HDD take the place of the Optical Disc Drive, and Have the Solid State Drive replace the Hard Drive.

Then I was reminded of how many complaints in the past couple of years there were about SSD's slowing down in performance over time. This has me wondering, should I only use the SSD to boot the system and applications, while storing regular files on the HDD. Or are the issues with Solid State drives cleared up, and it's safe to use it as my primary drive, while having my older HDD for a internal back up.
