So I recently started using 500px. I love the design, I love the photos on there and there are amazing photographers. However for an amateur it seems pretty useless. I don't know how you're ever supposed to get your photos seen. Before I joined I remember reading how their algorithms make sure that everyone has a chance of getting their stuff seen. It doesn't seem like that's the case to me.
For example I uploaded a photo earlier which after a few hours only has had 2 views other than my own. Usually I don't get many but this is the lowest (I've also never not received a few votes) and it happens to be on what I consider one of the better looking of the 7 I have uploaded. And since the Fresh category is constantly updated and as you only seem to get views in the first few minutes I guess it won't ever go above 3. After a quick search on Google it seems I'm not the only one who is thinking this.
I don't think my photos are amazing or anything but I've seen photos which are so much worse with loads of views/likes/faves. I just honestly don't understand how to get any kind of exposure on 500px. I don't want to go around whoring myself out on everyones photos by copying and pasting 'This is amazing, voted and favourited. Please look at my photos' onto everything like so many do, but is this the only way?
I really dislike Flickr but maybe I would have better luck on there. I hope I don't come across like I'm moaning or anything, it's just a bit frustrating. Any thoughts/advice would be greatly appreciated.
