Chromebook Pixel: Expensive touchscreen laptop + non-touch GUI + limited OS = WTF!

What the heck were they thinking when they prototyped this. I am willing to bet right now this will not sell much more than the Nexus Q for example.

Chromebook's strength comes from their cheap price and ability to deliver light HTML5 based apps for Googles services and the hardware thus does not have to be powerful to facilitate a cloud driven OS.

What is the point of dishing out such money on the same limited OS and same software which will still perform largely the same regardless if on a $250 Chromebook or the Chromebook pixel. The platform has next to no native apps that are intensive or require serious grunt. What is the purpose of this machine? Surely one would not spill such dough just because the text looks crisper now on the high res screen.

This Chromebook pixel is like an impotent Windows 7 touchscreen laptop that only runs HTML5 apps etc. But costs over a grand! WTF were they thinking! Will these actually hit the retail shelves ?
