The beauty of the Kindle vs terrible EBook formatting

Can someone please tell me what is wrong with eBook publishers?

The Kindle is such a great device. I love it. I read a lot when i was younger, but this passion somehow got lost when i started studying computer science. Of course i blamed it on having no time, but having no time wasn't a result of my studies but of all the content on the internet and on TV nowadays. An eReader can fix that: It's small and light enough to just take it with you everywhere you go, so you can read a few pages when you feel like it. I know a lot of people carry around books, but if it has a few hundred pages it can get annoyingly big and heavy pretty fast. Also you can take a whole collection with you on an eReader. People keep asking me why i need more than 2 or 3 books when i'm out and about, but you never know what you might be in the mood for. And then there are all those little things that make reading on the Kindle a lot more pleasant than reading books: It's light, it stays open by itself, you never loose a bookmark, it doesn't get as beaten up... it's hard enough to find a comfortable position to read in, but it's a lot easier with an eReader. My Kindle saved my passion for reading.

So why on earth are eBooks a terrible mess? It sad to have such great hardware but nothing to read on it. Of course that's an exaggeration, there are plenty of eBooks to read. But the formatting of many many eBooks is just bad, it's so bad, i don't want to read them. I even spend more money on eBooks that are available much cheaper, if the more expensive version has superior formatting. I don't get it. It's like selling mp3s with worse production than the CD version. Spelling errors, books without any linebreaks, no new pages for the start of a new chapter, no paragraphs at all or a shitload of unnecessary paragraphs... it's driving me insane.

Why? Will the situation get better someday? Do you mind, do you ignore it or do you don't buy eBooks with terrible formatting like me? Should i revert to reading physical books although i like reading on my Kindle better?
