Landscape text entry in iOS
Hey Apple Core dudes,
Sometimes in iOS you're forced to typing into a textfield with the orientation of the device locked to portrait mode. This is because certain apps and websites only support that orientation. That being said, I wonder if it is possible for Apple to consider a minor tweak in relation to text entry whereby you can go into the horizontal orientation (and therefore get the much easier landscape keyboard, with its more spaced out keys) for any textfield. How would they do this if the enclosing app or website only supports portrait? My idea is that, if you want to go into this special mode I am suggesting here, the whole screen whites out so all you see is a text area. Once you're done typing, and want to return back to the enclosing app or website, iOS has a nice transitionary fade back to that earlier state.
The only reason I'm suggesting this is that often I want to type comments on apps like The Verge but I'm forced into using the portrait mode keyboard, which is not as easy to use for long comments as the landscape one is.
