Google and Windows 8
Google's blatant hostility toward Windows 8 always struck me as odd.I couldn't write it off as response to a marketing campaign, Google knows better than that. I was also skeptical of the official stance that Windows 8 market impact is too small - Google is a service company first, that's how it makes bank.
Then it hit me. Windows is a behemoth, as soon as Windows 8 takes off Microsoft may well corner the app economy. Not only that - apps have potential to replace a lot of the functionality browsers give us. Many established websites already have app equivalents and, although most are subpar, they inherently offer more functionality. You can accomplish much more with C# than with HTML/CSS.
If our everyday fiddling moves from the browser to apps... well that has potential to wreak havoc on Google's revenue stream.
