We need collapsable comments
If the comments go beyond a few dozen, it becomes a cesspool of mud slinging. I can't even bring myself to scroll down to get to a new tree to see any actual discussion. Comment editing was a great first step, but without any way to shrink any of these fanboy rabbit holes, comments and forum threads are going to continue to degrade.
