Spotify has long been available for Windows Phone 7, but it's making the jump to Microsoft's latest mobile operating system today. Available in the Windows Phone Store, the new Spotify Windows Phone 8 app launches in beta today. Spotify's previous app for Windows Phone 7 used native code, thanks to an exception from Microsoft, so it never got fully ported over to the new codebase for Windows Phone 8.

The app appears to be largely similar to the existing Windows Phone 7 version, with options to sync over 3G and an offline mode. The Windows Phone 8 improvements are clear though, with Spotify resuming a lot faster. The Windows Phone Live Tile updates with the song or album that is playing, and there is the ability to pin playlists that you create to the Start Screen.

Windows Phone 8 users will be able to take advantage of 30 days of free Spotify premium before having to subscribe for $9.99 per month to access the service. The app is available now in the Windows Phone Store.

Update: An earlier version of this post incorrectly stated that the app does not support pinning functionality.
