Asus 10.1 VivoTab WinRT with Keyboard $399...
I saw this price on a MicroCenter mailout recently and thought we might be seeing the beginning of a real competition for Windows 8.
Personally, I always saw $399 as a perfect price point for a Windows Tablet. While I am not particularly interested in WindowsRT, I would definitely buy it for Windows 8 Pro. This Asus VivoTab device is a netbook with a touchscreen and a detachable keyboard.
I always thought the idea of a pure tablet was overated when I constantly see iPad users anywhere I go using a keyboard. Because I travel quite a bit for work, I visit coffee shops all over the country. Rarely, if ever, do I see tablet users without a "keyboard case".
About the only time I do see tablets without their cases is at sporting events, when parents are shooting videos. (Apple still dominates this Use Case.)
One thing which is rarely talked about when comparing Microsoft tablets to Apple and Android is the fact that Microsoft tablets can connect to and use practically all of the Windows peripherals in existence.
I think we are starting to see the Microsoft machine "turning on" by lowering the price point of Win8RT to their OEMs. I think this year we will see a "race to the bottom" for pricing. I think that Microsoft figures that they have 9 months till XMAS to getting their pricing in order. 2013 is shaping up to be a very interesting year for geeks like us.
