Google Closing off CalDAV Getting Lost in the Shuffle (Will there be any WP Gmail Sync Solution?)
So, I know the big news is that Google Reader is being closed. However, lost in that news is the fact that Google is also closing off their CalDAV API except to whitelisted developers. It's funny how when Google is closing EAS, they champion CalDAV as an open-source alternative that is far superior to EAS... and then months later, block off access to it. So, people who advocated a switch because CalDAV is open, what now?
That snarky comment aside, this has to be a little concerning for Microsoft, doesn't it? They're supposedly going to be building CalDAV and CardDAV into a future Windows Phone update just to support Gmail, and now Google is limiting access to this? What are the odds that this turns into another Youtube situation?
