Wii U sales slump continues through February
Three months in, the Wii U still is still having trouble getting a foothold in the US market. According to the latest numbers from NPD, reported by Gamasutra, February’s weekly Wii U sales grew around 40 percent over January’s disappointing results — a definite improvement, but at an estimated 64,000 units (February was a short month) that’s still worse than any month on record for the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360, and nearly an order of magnitude below December’s Wii U launch numbers. Needless to say, the holiday shopping season was a huge reason for the Wii U’s initial success, but even still, Nintendo can’t be happy that its new console is getting outsold four- or five-to-one by the seven-year-old Xbox 360.
