Why the obsession about aluminium laptops?

Yes , is more durable ;but whats the point on having a case that will endure for 10 , 15 or more years if the inside after 5y is obsolete or even useless soon after that ?

Why a good plastic is not enough ? my sister has a 5y old acer , made of really crapy plastic and it's in one piece and working ;...
