Animated GIFs were unleashed on the world more than 25 years ago, but we're just getting around to having a sensible way to search for them. Starting today Google will add a new image search filter that allows users to weed out everything but animated GIFs — a new "animated" option will appear under Google's drop-down search tools, which will return live previews of GIFs in search results. The update is a boon for those of us with private animated GIF collections, and will be sure to come in handy even for those who just want a quick way to let someone know how much their forum post has crashed and burned.
