Contextual search

Has there been any official word on why has contextual search been axed in mango?

Just the other day, while I was trying to locate the search soft button in some app, I remembered how awesome it was in the beginning. That made me think that there really is no possible reason that they would do this that I could think of. Is there a link somewhere with official explanation?

Also, given how much time has passed and the state of the app ecosystem, is there even the slightest chance of contextual search ever coming back?

On a side note, does W8 have this? If I search when in an app, will the in-app search results be shown by default?
