Microsoft dead? Don't think so, dude.
I was this week at Microsoft Convergence 2013 in New Orleans. For those who don't know, Convergence is the annual four-day convention related to all the Microsoft Dynamics products. I was there last year too (in Houston).
If you needed proof that Microsoft is alive and kicking ass, look no further. We had more than 12,000 attendees from all around the world, hundreds of vendors that rely on the Microsoft Dynamics platforms, and lots of new products and innovation available currently and in the pipeline.
Many Windows 8 apps were presented, including apps based on existing Dynamics platforms, and presented using the Surface tablets. It really was an impressive thing to see how everything worked seamlessly. Some of the stuff was also presented on iPads, showing how Microsoft opens itself up to other platforms while others lift walls and prevent Microsoft from using them (I'm looking at you, Google).
This is where you suddenly realize the huge wide world beyond the doomsayer geek blogs that can't see beyond their own noses. And when you see that wider picture, you realize that Microsoft is indeed in a very strong position.
