Call me crazy but I think that the iPad and Surface go after different markets.

So, about a month ago I caved and bought an iPad 4th generation. It took me a while to get there but eventually it was the Newspaper that got me there. Paying $3 a week for the digital version instead of $2 every day will literally save me hundreds in the long run and the iPad will effectively pay itself off in 2 years. I'll be honest, while I hate Apple products with a passion (there are so many little things that annoy me and app crashes aplenty) I've been enjoying the portability and ease of use.

Which brings me to my point. I still want a Surface Pro. While I enjoy the iPad for consumption (I think it's the best form factor for reading the newspaper simply because of it's aspect ratio) it just fails hard at any kind of productivity. I can't tell you the number of times where there have been missing letters and important pictures from a Word document when I open them up in the iPad. (for example in Word on PC = "a) b AND c" on iPad = "a) AND " ... I don't know where those letters went)

Needless to say there's no inking, the browser does it's best but it still sucks compared to the PC and it's highly constrictive. (which is why I loathe using Apple products) Typing on the iPad is a drag, honestly I don't know how some people do it.

... Back to my point though. I want both. I don't want a laptop anymore, I think that's what the Surface Pro is for. It's a productivity companion that kills any need for a laptop for me. (I have a desktop for gaming etc.) I'll use my iPad as more of a second screen/to read questions for my tutorial while I can draw and type on the Surface Pro. Then just pack up when I leave.

Personally I think the market is wide open for Amazon to come in if Apple decides it wants to be more entertainment. Newspapers and Magazines need a screen that is bigger than a paperback and not 16:9. The iPad is primarily a reading, networking and consumption device to me. There is no way I'm going to be producing anything on that, not even a blog post. Though I see them complimenting each other well.

Anyone else thought about this?

Here's what I was trying to explain before in the second paragraph.
